Video Audio Production

Bring stories to life with Video and Audio Production, a hands-on program for students ready to immerse themselves in every stage of media creation. From initial scriptwriting and directing to advanced editing and special effects, students gain the technical expertise to produce newscasts, short films, commercials, and much more. Beyond the screen, students dive into audio engineering—mastering podcasting, sound design, and music mixing to create professional-quality soundscapes.

  • Hands-on Activities- Students will engage in technical exercises like operating professional cameras and setting up lighting rigs to master visual composition. They also gain experience recording and mixing audio using tools like boom mics and digital audio workstations (DAWs) to produce diverse projects ranging from newscasts and commercials to short films and music videos. Through collaborative roles like director, editor, and sound technician, students apply post-production skills to refine their footage into a polished professional portfolio.
  • Real World Opportunities- Throughout the year, students will meet with professional guest speakers, attend industry conferences, participate in state-wide competitions, gain fieldwork experience through working with local clients, and job-shadow industry experts.
  • Related Careers- Production Assistant, Camera Operator, Audio Visual Technician, Broadcast Engineer, Sound Designer, Podcast Producer, and many more.
  • College Credit- is available as a state-wide articulated program.  Students who successfully complete the program will have the opportunity to earn college credit from:
    • Delta College
    • Mott Community College
    • Washtenaw Community College

Work Experience in Career Field: Reporter/Photographer, Journalism Instructor, Instructional Technology Coach, Webpage Developer, and Promotional Video Creator

What inspired you to teach in your program career field? I wanted to inspire young people to harness their creativity to develop videos and show them career opportunities in this field.

What are some interests outside of the classroom? Traveling, photography, videography, fishing, gardening, history, and music.

How do you hope your students will remember you?  I would like to be remembered as someone who is both informative and entertaining, who cares about them, listens, and is easy to communicate with. Hopefully, I will be remembered as the person they got their start in broadcasting, audio/video production, or multimedia journalism with.
